Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds run Wrexham Football Club as they try to create an underdog story the world can root for. From Hollywood to Wales, the docuseries tracks their crash course in ownership and the interwoven fates of a team and a town.
The largest part of the work I did for season 3 of Welcome to Wrexham was creating the media guide/press kit. Basically its a giant document/book that contains all of the information about the show, the season, the cast and their characters, the crew & production.
Again, I was lucky enough to have my work cut out for me. The amazing illustrations and artwork utilized throughout the entire book was created by "State Design". But the main challenges were laying out the large amounts of informational pages as well as the pages for the on-screen talent.
Much of the pages involve bits and pieces of the illustrative work from the key art interweaving with the copy and titles as well as some illustrative elements I made on the talent pages.
Please check out the media guide below in full broken out by section.
A lot of the early concepts I started with began with color, typography, and general layouts and trying to pin-point the right balance. Below are a lot of variations in layout for the Lead Story page. Luckily I had the awesome key art to use as a starting point to help direct layout and visual hierarchy.
After I presented my round 1 ideas, I got notes that helped me further refine the layout for the Lead Story page and began focusing on layouts for the character and Ratings Advisory pages.
Once the direction and layouts were picked, now was the arduous task of creating every page and compiling all of the info into each layout. Below is what the final media guide looks like for Welcome to Wrexham - Season 3.
